Engineering Intern - Summer 2019
FreeAgent is one of the leading online accounting platforms in the UK with over 70,000 customers and continued fast growth. We’re on a mission to make businesses happier and more successful by putting them in control of their finances. Our app is already loved by thousands of freelancers, small business owners and accountants, and this role is a great opportunity to be a part of something that makes a real difference!
Every summer we invite interns to join our Edinburgh-based Engineering team for three months between June and September. Our interns are treated as full-time employees and become a core part of the engineering team. You will work alongside and be mentored by our engineers, and you'll have the opportunity to add valuable features to our product.
We pay well, we have a great office in central Edinburgh (you'll be here during festival time!) and a fantastic team of people to learn from.
Previous intern projects have involved improving notifications to customers around invoicing, spending and security, as well as updating our integration with the XE.com API to take advantage of the latest features.
You can read about the experience, as blogged about by a few of our interns from summer 2018 at https://medium.com/grinding-gears.
We pay our interns well, we have a stunning office in central Edinburgh (you'll be here during festival time!) and a fantastic team of people to learn from.
In order to qualify for an internship you need to meet the following criteria:
- Be a full-time student at a UK university, ideally (but not essentially) studying Computer Science or similar
- Be eligible to work in the UK during university vacations
- Be able to relocate to Edinburgh for the duration of the internship
- Have demonstrable web programming experience
- Have a willingness to learn Ruby and the Rails framework
This is a paid internship from June to September 2019, working from our stunning offices at Edinburgh Quay (convenient for Haymarket station and airport links). We encourage continual self-development and hold bi-annual company hack days. We work smarter, not harder, and try to have fun doing it! We want people to feel nurtured and at ease to be themselves, so they feel empowered and engaged to do their best work. We value our diverse team, and the variety of experiences and backgrounds only make us stronger.
Applying for the role
If you're interested, please provide your CV with details about your university course, previous experience and examples of your work if available (e.g. Github) and tell us why you want to join us for the summer!
The selection process will involve a technical element where we’ll give you a practical problem to work on and a final face-to-face interview.
